Dorothy has been painting for the past 40 years working chiefly in Oils and is the fourth generation of her family that has shown great skill in working with various types of media. She quickly became known for her finely detailed landscapes, and was well known in the Bournemouth area in her early days, where she exhibited in the Art shows in the Winter Gardens yearly.

She studied at Bracknell for a few years but the main effort of her work is self-taught bringing an original fresh style, which brings the countryside to life in a dramatic and evocative manner.

After moving to Berkshire she quickly made a name for herself with the Wokingham Art Group and the Art Gallery’s in Ascot and Henley. About ten years ago she moved to West Sussex and here she has once again made her mark with her fine landscape paintings, bringing the beautiful scenery of Sussex to life.

Since moving to this area she has become a member of the Downland Art Society and enjoys popular support by all her piers. In May 2006 she won the Dennis Frost Award at the Societies Annual Exhibition in Arundel also she has had work selected for Exhibition by Portsmouth Art show and the Association  of Sussex Artists at Horsham.

Based in the picturesque village of Walberton, near Arundel, West Sussex, Downland Art Society is an open and friendly Art Society. We may have been founded in 1944, but we are far from old fashioned. With monthly meetings, regular workshops and two successful exhibitions a year, there’s always something going on

If you love great art, make sure you visit the Downland Art Society Summer Exhibition; a popular and varied exhibition taking place as part of this year's Arundel Gallery Trail. What a great way to enjoy the summer and spend the last Bank Holiday of the year. With unframed pictures, framed paintings and canvases in a variety of sizes and mediums; watercolour, oils, acrylics, pastel and mixed media - there is something for every taste and budget.

The Society's exhibitions have become a regular haunt for art buyers and around 150 paintings are purchased every year.  As paintings are purchased and taken away they are replaced with new ones, providing even more choice, so get down to the show early and don't forget to revisit later in the exhibition's run.  See if you can spot which artist has won the annual 'Best in Show' award, or received a 'Highly Commended' certificate and enjoy the artist biographies. Members stewarding the exhibition are on hand and happy to help any visitors who have questions or want advice.
