Gilly McCadden is a printmaker and painter.
She uses her prints to focus on creating striking and evocative images of wild plants. Using the intrinsic layering of silkscreen process to simplify the form, she creates a new understanding of these plants and their extraordinary beauty.
Her watercolours explore the landscape, with the focus shifting seamlessly between the overall scene and the intimate detail. Her lines, layers and washes combine to depict not just the physical appearance of each scene, but also its unique atmosphere. Using colour to evoke different emotions, her myriad techniques of applying watercolour give a much - neglected medium a new lease of life. The work has a simple, contemporary feel, but the simplicity is deceptive; these are works of depth and subtlety that repay long contemplation.
Gilly McCadden studied Fine Art at Brighton College of Art and paints from her studio in West Sussex. She has been widely exhibited at art fairs and galleries throughout the UK.
