When Mike Prince left Art College and got a job in air surveying in the late 1960’s, little did he think that fifty years later he’d be making abstract wood sculptures in his own studio!
Mike continues “It was about ten or fifteen years ago, I suddenly had a bit more free time, so I took up wood carving again. I never had any intention of selling my work, as it was just something I enjoyed doing.”
Mike’s work really has to be seen to be appreciated. It has a pleasing solidity and enjoys generous, sensuous forms, redolent of work by Henry Moore or Barbara Hepworth. Mike lived in Africa for a year, and this is also reflected in his art. It should be noted, that due to the finish Mike works hard to achieve, his sculptures are also incredibly tactile!
