My subject is the human figure: how it survives, responds and interacts with its environment. I abstract the figure to a greater or lesser degree depending on the theme. The original idea, whether it’s cut in card, carved in stone, or written in script, is blocked into basic shapes. It is given a clear identity and strong underlying form. Then it’s refined, reduced and distilled while keeping true to the original premise.
