Ruth McCorquodale or “Granniegrimble” to her grandchildren, has lived in and around Arundel for over 40 years. Her work is heavily influenced by themes of sustainability and recycling/upcycling. 2013 witnessed her inaugural year on the Arundel Gallery Trail with a series of works produced using a wide range of textiles, including curtains, wool, fabrics and anything else that came her way. She thinks of it as rescuing textiles. These are then transformed into a variety of individual items such as her inspirational rag rugs. Everything is handcrafted using various traditional rag rugging and knitting techniques, but contrasted with designs that are fun and funky. Some of her most engaging works are formed from the leftover materials which she brings together in an eclectic combination, a new and exciting life!
