Venue Address: Southdown Cottage, Yapton Lane, Walberton BN18 0AS

Cat and Kiwi Studio will be joining the Arundel Gallery Trail for the first time this year. We are so pleased to be able to share our display space gallery with other Sussex artists and makers. Katherine Lawrie has a wealth of experience, having curated, and run exhibitions showcasing local artists and makers for over 25 years. We will be showing the work of several local artists including Elizabeth Welch – Glass, Jessica Jordan – Ceramics, Debbie Forsdyke - Stained Glass, Sylvie Howitt – Paper Cuts, and Sarah Duffield – Colour Landscapes, alongside Katherine Lawrie’s Jewellery and Cat and Kiwi’s handmade upholstered new furniture. We are based in between Walberton and Yapton, perfectly situated for a gorgeous bike ride out from Arundel and the surrounding villages but do have parking for cars too. We will be offering refreshments for those who wish to linger a little longer.

My name is Katherine Lawrie, I’ve been making jewellery professionally for over twenty five years.

Previously I made jewellery under the supervision of my father, who is a jeweller too, as a hobby. I found I had a talent for it so decided that I would attend Art College and learn the skills I would need to set up in business.

I studied at Northbrook College in West Sussex, The Surrey Institute of Art and Design and Edinburgh College of Art. After this I returned to the south of England and starting working at my studio near Steyning, where I worked for twenty years. I moved to a new studio near Arundel in 2019. Over the years I have found my style; being in the Sussex countryside is a constant source of inspiration. I sell one off and limited editions cast from life pieces, I’m also happy to work to commission within my making style.

I offer jewellery making workshops at my studio. I enjoy teaching, I like to feel that others are gaining enjoyment from learning new skills and by being creative. It’s important for crafts people to pass on their skills. Creative thinking is a vital tool in today’s world.

I work mainly in Sterling Silver, Gold and Silver Gilt. I predominantly use textures and forms found in the natural surroundings of this area of the South Downs. I incorporate precious and semi-precious gems and beads into my work, as I love colour.
