Nicola has a long-standing interest in the pattern, construction and social context of cloth. Having gained a BA in printed textiles, she has recently started painting in oils. Vintage bedding is of interest as are used clothes particularly objects that bear the signs of human wear and intervention. These items are commonplace and often overlooked. By painting using close observation and detail she hopes to take these fabrics to the next stage in their lives and toemphasise the poignant markers of personal history. Nowadays most items of personal bedding and clothing are frequently updated and the unwanted items recycled or sent to landfill. Nicola’s intention is to show the value and beauty of the obsolete. Often the pattern design is important too; transporting the viewer to a specific time in history. Nicola is currently completing an MA in fine arts at Chichester University
