Roy is a failed graphic designer but a decent book illustrator. He tends to worry and fussed too much over his work and consequently struggled to pay the mortgage. In his mid-forties, Roy became one of the top selling artists in America and Japan with solo exhibitions in major cities including New York, Washington and Tokyo. Ten years ago he quit painting and has been a landlord and builder ever since; or as he puts it, ‘it seemed like a good idea at the time.’He is a published poet and has won the Kate Mosse Labyrinth short story competition. Now that his kids are provided for and his old age is sort of sorted, he has started painting again.
