Parkers Atelier is thrilled to be showcasing the bold, colourful and quirky artist Brigitte Girling. A former floral designer, Brigitte is inspired by her unruly wildlife garden and the simple pleasure of bringing extracts of the outside inside to create whimsically imagined still lifes. Her work plays on the messy mayhem of those pots, bowls, mugs of tea, plants and flowers strewn across tabletops as she worked - while daily dog walks occasionally inspire semi abstract landscapes.
Brigitte delights in playing with paint, thinking about the colours she sees outside and how being in nature makes her feel. She doesn't plan much. She creates intuitively, from her imagination, until the painting chooses to reveal itself. This process leads to the build-up of many layers resulting in a uniquely beautiful textured surface full of past ideas, scratches, scrapes, washes, marks and colour.
Brigitte says this discovery method of painting makes her really happy. It's a free-flowing process where the painting decides what it wants to be. It's her way of capturing the joy and spontaneity that comes with being creatively present in the moment.
