PENNY GAMBRILL

  • Instagram - Black Circle

Penny was born in Whitstable and spent her childhood years surrounded by landscapes of seas; shingle beaches and tarred breakwaters. Her father painted and she fondly remembers times with easels, brushes and sketch pads in her Dad’s attic studio.

However it was initially the sciences that drew her in and Penny went on to take a Biochemistry degree at Manchester University, then lived and worked in Portugal for 14 years. The raw beauty of the Iberian peninsular landscapes inform her painting now.

Once back in England, consultancy projects afforded her opportunities to attend a 2yr Fine Art programme at Sussex University (2007-9) and residential art courses in Italy with Slade tutors. She enjoys mixed media and works emotionally, sensing the open spaces, then moving to capture them with a freshness and a mood. Her more recent work has evolved to include larger abstracts in acrylic and black and white portrait photography.

Penny and husband Martin moved to Arundel in 2017. Working together they created their first joint exhibition for the Arundel Gallery Trail 2018 and became organisers of the Trail in 2019.

Penny has exhibited at Galleries in Sussex and Hampshire.
