I wanted to be an artist from early childhood, beginning my first project aged 5, with a blank school wall and some chalk I’d found. Fortunately for me, my later efforts have not ended with a request to explain my actions to the headteacher!
In my paintings I use both abstract and figurative elements to explore personal narratives and reactions to my environment. I see my role as an artist is to reflect on and interpret my experience, not simply to reproduce an external image.
I have travelled and studied in Europe and America and exhibited in London, Winchester, Brighton. I’ve held solo exhibitions in Littlehampton and Arundel. As part of my Master’s degree at the University of Chichester, my written work for the Transpersonal Arts module entitled ‘A Dance with My Shadow’ was published in ‘Performing the Dreams of Your Body’ by Jill Hayes, Archive Publishing, 2007. Having completed a P.G.C.E. I’ve been employed as a lecturer of further and higher education and have been involved in community art projects.
I am delighted to return to Arundel for a third year on the Art Trail.
