I am a painter living and working in Arundel. My work is figurative and my preferred medium is oil. Drawing provides a foundation on which I develop a painting.Not only are drawings preparatory to developing a composition but often they will be a complete and final statement in their own right.
Recently, I have been focusing on portraiture with the challenge of its competing aims of both a physical likeness and something more ephemeral that one might call spirit or soul. For this reason my sitters are often friends and family, which makes so much of my work autobiographical.
