I studied Fine Art at Northbrook and Wimbledon College of Art and come from a tradition of life drawing and painting. Emphasis was on observation and representation in response to the movement of the time which had moved away from the centrality of the figure in art. While the figure, and especially the portrait, is still central to my practice, I am now interested in the problem of making paintings from the photographic image.
The images that I choose to paint are taken from a plethora of images captured on mobile phones of everyday life, particularly of family and friends. My resulting portraits translate these fleeting photographic images into something more permanent. Hopefully, they take on a life of their own.
