I am an entirely self-taught wood turner (over 40 years) specialising in using locally grown but not necessarily native timbers. I am particularly interested in timber with faults, flaws and dramatic features.
Reclaimed hardwood is of course a welcome subject. In recent years the effects obtained with mica coloured resins have become an obsession inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi where faults and damage are celebrated as part of the life story of the piece.
As well as being striking and beautiful, the majority of my pieces are food-safe and of practical use. Despite the considerable time and often many processes involved, I endeavour to ensure that my prices are accessible so that they can be enjoyed by many.
