HAZEL CROMPTON WEST

Venue 19

    Venue address: 17 Maltravers Street, BN18 9AP

Hazel Crompton West is a contemporary jewellery artist whose practice explores the poetic potential of material, surface and colour. Working predominantly in silver, she combines intricate piercing, expressive textural mark-making and vitreous enamelling, to reflect her fascination with the overlooked minutiae of everyday life.

Materiality sits at the centre of her work. Each piece is carefully crafted using time-honoured hand skills, allowing the inherent qualities of precious metal to guide the making process. Crompton West builds layers of tactility and depth, creating jewellery that rewards close examination and physical engagement. The resulting forms become small, intimate landscapes where texture, shadow and structure interact. Transparent pools of enamel create luminous moments of colour, enhancing the sense of depth while highlighting the relationship between surface and form.

Crompton West’s jewellery seeks to capture attention quietly yet persistently. Rooted in traditional craftsmanship but informed by a contemporary sensibility, her work invites contemplation and curiosity, encouraging the viewer to pause and appreciate the subtle beauty, complexity and fascination found within life’s smallest details.

Hazel Crompton West gained her Master of Arts Degree in 2025. She is a Technical Tutor at the University for the Creative Arts, Surrey. UK.
